Final assignment
In my
first semester of college, the English 101 class I took with Professor
Alexander learning a lot about writing and how much techniques there are to
writing. The way someone can express themselves, their moods, feelings, actions
all in one paper. The different ways each author has their own sense of writing
or using different techniques to write their writings have really open my eyes
to see how writing is a way to express yourself and your feelings .
The
different types of assignments I was assigned to do have taught me different
ways of the English writing. The yellow wallpaper assignment that was assigned
to me had many techniques to it, the way it had many expressions as well.
Learning how to “unpack a quotation”, which is something have never done
through my high school years, it was interesting how you take a quote and have
to explain it and basically explain a certain topic or idea you believe the
quotation has or expresses, that basically explains the story or how important
that specific passage is throughout the entire story. The writing technique “unpacking a quote”
showed how an author, by taking single quote, they can write a whole writing
about it as their own personal idea , opinion upon it.
In
the Yellow wallpaper, the narrator of the story expresses herself in the story
to the fullest. In the passage the narrator writes basically about an overly obsession
she is about a wallpaper in a specific room in her and her husband’s rental
summer home they had. The way the narrator wrote to set the mood for the reader
throughout the entire reading was very interesting to me. It taught me how
writing can express a certain person feelings and how it can kind of be like a
diary and when you look at it at that way, it can open up your mind. The you can’t
express yourself as in life, you most defiantly can on a piece of paper .
In descriptive writing, there many ways to
express yourself or to express certain thing, you can go into details about. By
going into details within the story that can actually give the reader the
vision of what they are reading, the way the author or narrator describes it.
The way a single thing or action can be stretched out to be described and how
even the littlest thing can be expressed to be such a huge thing in a readers
mind to in vision.
In
the story, “The yellow wallpaper “by Charlotte Perkins, the narrator of the
story uses the technique of description a lot throughout the entire story. She
writes about this yellow wallpaper in a certain room in her ancestral halls she
had for the summer with her husband. In the passage she describes the walls as
“ the worse paper she saw in her life “ and “ one of those sprawling flamboyant
patterns committing every artistic sin “, as the reader I can in vision
something really ugly looking . I can also in vision how much disgust she has
towards the wallpaper as well. The writing technique of actually somewhat
feeling the anger the narrator had and how I can imagine the narrator going
crazy because of this wallpaper.
Throughout this fall semester in my English 101 class, I’ve gotten to
see the different types of writing techniques that were being used by different
authors. It taught me a lot of about writing and how someone can express
themselves about things and how powerful it can be, that even the reader can
either imagine or feel the actions and scenes of the story. Learning different
techniques of descriptive can defiantly help oneself become a better writer.
